Please feel free to wear whatever is comfortable for you. Some come to church in jeans and running shoes, while others wear a suit and tie, or business casual. There is no dress code for any of our services.
Every Sunday, Pastor Deb or a member of the congregation has a short message for young people which corresponds to the readings of the day or season. They're interactive, hands-on, and personalized, so that each child can learn about Jesus in a way that connects with them
Opening
We start off with announcements followed by joys & concerns- Anything you want to share with the congregation is welcome. This is the time when we take prayer requests which are published in our bulletin and newsletter. Next is acolyte- Traditionally, a youth of our congregation carries the light—symbolizing the presence of the Holy Spirit—down the center of the church. This is also a time when one of our members might share one of their musical talents. We then sing a praise hymn. Hymns are very central to our church and range from ancient hymns to modern worship songs. We then ask you to join us in the call to worship which is printed in the bulletin. The liturgist says what is written in regular font, and we all say what is written in bold. We end our call to worship with the Lord’s Prayer in the Traditional KJV substituting “sins” for “trespasses”.
Scripture
We have two scripture readings that are usually from the Old and New Testament but correspond to the lectionary on the DOC website. The general run down of this is "1st Scripture Reading, Hymn, 2nd Scripture Reading".
The Message
The sermon is one of the central parts of our worship. This is where Pastor Deb teaches us how to apply the scriptural reading into our daily lives. First, she offers the Pastoral Prayer. Then, she gives her message which usually lasts between fifteen and twenty minutes. Pastor Deb uses a wealth of resources to form her sermons including children's books, blogs, and high literature.
Communion
Communion is the main event at our church. We celebrate it weekly, and it is the reason our denomination's logo is the Red Chalice—The St. Andrew's Cross imposed on the Chalice reminds us of each believer's call to spread the word. We come to the table through a communion hymn. We then have offering after which we sing the Doxology (Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below, Praise Him above ye Heavenly Hosts, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost). Then comes Communion- As a child of God, all believers are welcome to partake in the Body and Blood. Elders will give a prayer for the bread and the cup, then the deacons pass the substances while the laity remain in their seats. We ask that you hold your elements until Pastor Deb blesses the elements so that we may all partake in remembering the Sacrifice together.
Benediction
A central belief of the DOC is believers baptism. We start off our going forth by singing a hymn of invitation. Enjoying your time here at TCC? This is the time when you can confess that Jesus is your Lord and Savior and join our church. This is also the time when you can start the process of getting baptized into the invisible Body of Christ (but we recognize the validity of all baptisms in all denominations). After which, we are blessed by Pastor Deb with a benediction and sing usually 1 verse of a going forth hymn. Now that you have renewed your faith, you are now called to proclaim the Good News to the world!
